FAQs - CHICKENS

WHAT DO YOU FEED THE CHICKENS?

All our Chickens are fed Layers Pellet from 19 weeks of age. We use a few different brands, Marriages, Heygates or Garvo. All these brands are chosen by us as their product uses quality ingredients to provide the most beneficial nutrients required to help your hens lay the best quality eggs.

Prior to this they will have been fed Chick Crumb followed by Growers Pellet. We tend to only add corn or wheat in the winter months. Mixed Grit is always available and Multivit is added to water once a month.

CAN I KEEP ANY BREED OF CHICKEN?

When we hatch and rear chickens, we rear in a mixed group of all the breeds together. We like to free range them on our large rearing fields as soon as possible. This does mean that most breeds are used to, and are happily living together. However, we can help guide you as to what will work best for you as this can depend on a number of factors such as space and the type of egg production you are looking for.

ARE YOUR BIRDS FULLY VACCINATED?

Unlike Hybrids, Pure breds do not tend to be vaccinated in the same way. We vaccinate against 2 major diseases within the first 6 weeks of the chicks life, but these typically only last for 6 months. Ducks are not vaccinated. We do give multi-vit, and worms the chickens to ensure they are in good health.

WHEN DO YOU WORM?

We worm all the Chickens 3 times a year in September, January, May, but we also strongly advise you worm new hens. We free range the chickens from 6 weeks old so it is likely that they can pick up worms at any point.

HOW OLD WILL MY CHICKENS BE?

We only sell our chickens once they reach 16 weeks old. Hatching season ends for us in July, and restarts in January.
